I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. My interest in photography was kindled from a young age by my father who was an enthusiastic amateur photographer. Over the years, my photographic style has evolved, but has always been based on the landscape. I do not consider myself to be a pictorial photographer and I do not usually take photographs to document a scene. The genres of photography that interest me are fine art photography and minimalism. I like to look at a scene and distil it to the essential elements. The use of black and white is a way of taking the scene one step from the reality of what I see. Inevitably, my photographic vision has been influenced by those photographers who shoot in this style, notably Michael Kenna, Rohan Reilly and Bruce Percy. Long exposure photography is a technique that I often use as it simplifies a scene and makes it appear more minimal, especially in the presence of water. I also like photographing in snow as this also simplifies a scene, stripping away unnecessary detail and distractions.
